It has been ages since I've posted! I loooooove threadless tees with a passion and i have a kind of constant pile of them to reconstruct... and i keep adding to that pile! here are some of the things i've done, plus some from scratch love for ya.

non-blurry pictures, more recons, and from-scratch goodness below the cut! )

A few notes:

Threadless is in the midst of their annual Christmas sale, & today every tee on their site is 9$! I just placed an order & can't wait to get my tees. CHECK IT OUT!

Quite a bit of what I posted is for sale in my shop HERE. You're probably not in the mood to be advertised to--it is black friday, after all--and i'm certain you're clever enough to make the stuff yourself. But if you wanted to take a peek, I'd adore you forever!

Kisses!

Hi! [Waves] I'm new here, but I came by because I have a dilemma

I've got 4 wigs that I haven't really worn much, but with the arrival of my newest one (Long, straight, purple!squee!) I had a maybe crazy idea...

Can I get it a bit more under control with a bath or spray down with some very diluted liquid fabric softener? All 4 are artificial fibers, Kanakaelon, except for the cheapo Halloween wig.

If not fabric softener, then what else is recommended? My main concerns are control static, and styling it to stay out of my darn face!

Any advice I get from actual wig wearers will be cherished greatly. Thanks!

Hey there! First off, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I can't seem to access the memories section. On the profile page for the community it says "18,206 Journal Entries, 150 Tags, 0 Memories, 0 Virtual Gifts, 1 Userpic" Is there something I need to do to be able to view these or am I looking in the wrong area? Sorry if this is a stupid Q ;)

On to more exciting matters. I have an oversized tshirt I plan on turning into a tube dress. I'd like to use elastic at the top but I want to spruce it up a bit more and possibly do corset lacing up the side. I've never done anything like that before and my question is, will I be able to do that and still have the elastic around the top to hold it up? If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it. Again sorry if this has been asked already but I can't get to the memories so I'm not sure. ;)

Thank you!

Having cut off the hem of the original pink cat tee to use for my skirt project (previous post), I also removed the original sleeves and slimmed the sides. I used dark heather grey t-shirt fabric from a shirt I no longer wear for the wide waistband and gathered sleeves (the original hem on the sleeves served as casing for elastic and the sleeve is gathered at bit the shoulder). Lastly, I folded over the thick ribbed collar and zig-zag stitched it down so it would be a more open neckline. :)

After the advice on my last post and various stuff I've seen here, I made a new dress:

More pictures at my lj.

Bet you don't get a lot of ankle length dresses here, I'm quite proud of it even if it did end up rather wonky :)

I've been wanting to try a shirt like this for a while but I'm planning on starting off with a t-shirt, so I'm kind of confused with how to do it. How would you guys suggest making something like this? I'm not going to do the ruching down the middle, its the knot I'm having trouble with. Thanks for your time!!!

FIRST TIME POSTER, RECENT LURKER. ;D

I've had this creepy pink cat-face shirt from when I was a kid and found this GIANT MUMU (MAI TAIS, anyone? lol) at a thrift store a few years ago (the fabric is so lightweight and breezy) and decided to make a skirt. I wanted to make this for summer but got lazy...but it was 80+ degrees today in SoCal so it's definitely still 'seasonal' for me. ;)

For now, I just used the t-shirt for the plain pink waistband, but will probably make something with the freaky cat print...just haven't figured out what yet. GOTTA use it for something! There's a MESS of MUMU left for scrap too...whee, textiles.

Started with this...

I just made this dress, my first real tshirt surgery (I don't think adjusting oversize shirts to be smaller really counts):

More photos and instructions on my livejournal.

My question is: how I can I do this again only better? I have a big bag of very large mens shirts to experiment with.

I was thinking a waistband and some gathering on the skirt would help, kind of like this dress only without the halterneck, or this skirt.

The seam where I sewed past the arm holes on the skirt looks crap, anyone have suggestion for how to do it better so it still fits past my giant hips? The only option I can think of is sewing a straight diagonal to make an A-line skirt and pulling it up until it fits looser so I can add some gathering. Or I could use two shirts per skirt, making it very flowy.

Other suggestions for very oversize shirts (some of which are button up) appreciated. Obviously I could just use the tutorials for slightly-too-big shirts and throw away more material but that seems a waste.

I've been going through the posts on this community, it's very inspiring!

For the past couple of years I've gotten into the habit of wearing synthetic dreads, braided in of course.
However, during this time period I haven't had a job other than a co-op position where my coworkers were totally cool with me havind dreads.
But now I'm working for a generic big-box department store, and I'm really unsure if I should be installing my dreads or not.
I wear dreads the same colour as my hair, so they look fairly natural.
Our employee dress code says you can't have "unnatural" hair colours, and it says you can't wear "dramatic" makeup, so it's moderate in its strictness? I'm still really unsure if it would be appropriate or not. Should I just ask my supervisor?

Does anyone here work in a department store or would be able to offer some advice, maybe from experience?

I know this is a little bit of a random question and I understand if this isn't appropriate.
Thanks! :)

I was completely inspired by this community to reconstruct some t-shirts myself. I got a little overzealous with my first attempt but I've figured out how to fix it. I just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration!
